The 2024 Vice Presidential Debate between Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance of Ohio will be held tonight, marking the only scheduled debate between the two vice presidential candidates ahead of the November election.
The debate will begin at 9 p.m. ET and last 90 minutes, concluding at 10:30 p.m. ET. CBS will provide live coverage on its broadcast stations starting at 8 p.m. ET, while streaming options will be available through the CBS News app, Paramount+, and CBSNews.com, as well as on YouTube.
Norah O’Donnell, anchor of “CBS Evening News,” and Margaret Brennan, moderator of “Face the Nation,” will oversee the event, which will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City. Notably, there will be no audience in attendance, a decision in line with the two previous presidential debates.
The debate format will feature no opening statements. Candidates will each have two minutes to respond to questions and an additional minute for rebuttals. The moderators may extend discussions at their discretion. Unlike the presidential debates, candidates’ microphones will not be muted while their opponent is speaking, although CBS reserves the right to turn them off if necessary.
This debate follows three weeks after the only presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Walz, Harris’ running mate, and Vance, selected by Trump, are both relatively new to the national political scene.
Debate coverage on CBS News 24/7 will begin at 4 p.m. ET for those who wish to tune in early.
