The University of Georgia has set a new record for undergraduate applications, with nearly 48,000 students seeking admission to the Class of 2029. This marks an increase of almost 5,000 applications from the previous year, reflecting a growing demand for enrollment at Georgia’s flagship university.
From this highly competitive applicant pool, more than 15,800 students were offered admission for the upcoming fall semester. The overall acceptance rate stands at 33%, with applications rising by 12% across both in-state and out-of-state students.
UGA continues to prioritize its commitment to Georgia residents, admitting students from 154 of the state’s 159 counties, an increase of six counties from last year. Students from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., were also among those accepted, showcasing the university’s national reach.
UGA President Jere W. Morehead acknowledged the high caliber of the admitted students, stating, “Year after year, the University of Georgia continues to attract incredibly talented students who arrive on campus ready to embrace their role as future leaders. I congratulate the students who have been admitted to the Class of 2029, and I look forward to welcoming them to our world-class learning environment this fall.”
The university’s first-year class is expected to comprise approximately 80% in-state students and 20% out-of-state students. These incoming students bring a wealth of experiences beyond academics, having collectively held more than 16,500 volunteer roles, over 23,000 leadership positions, and close to 9,400 jobs. Additionally, thousands have contributed to the creative arts and participated in athletic teams. Notably, 24 admitted students share the first name Georgia.
UGA remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition for new students by providing on-campus housing, ensuring course availability, and supporting timely graduation. “UGA is committed to ensuring that all students have a wonderful experience during their time here. For incoming first-year students, this includes providing on-campus housing, ensuring they can enroll in necessary classes and supporting them to graduate within four years,” said David Graves, UGA’s director of undergraduate admissions.
Meanwhile, the university is preparing for its next wave of admissions decisions. Transfer student admissions for the summer and fall 2025 terms will be announced on March 21st. UGA continues to follow its strategic enrollment plan, aiming to admit one transfer student for every two first-year students.
