State Senator Colton Moore, R-Trenton is seeking criminal charges against a house staffer who allegedly shoved him to the ground in a viral altercation that caused a yearslong conflict to come to a headway.
The fight, which was filmed and posted across social media, happened after Moore was banned from a joint session by House Speaker Jon Burns.
Moore attempted to enter the chamber and was blocked by House doorkeeper Cory Mulkey and the Speaker’s legal counsel, Keith Williams, who shoved Moore to the ground during the exchange.
Moore was subsequently arrested and held in an Atlanta jail, but was released shortly after. (RELATED: Gabriel Sterling, Who Oversaw Dominion Voting System Rollout, Runs for Secretary of State)
Moore claims that a lack of intervention from nearby officers shows that Williams’ actions were unjustified and illegal, while Williams’ legal counsel has made a similar argument to defend the legality of his actions.

“There were six troopers watching this interaction,” William’s attorney Andrew Fleischman said. “None of them thought Mr. Williams committed a crime. The magistrate judge didn’t think Mr. Williams committed a crime.”
Catherine Bernard, Moore’s attorney, said that if it was legal to keep Moore out of the chamber, police officers should have enforced the order rather than a member of Speaker Burns’ staff.
“I guarantee you that if there had actually been legal authority to keep Colton Moore out of the House, those Georgia state troopers would have been the ones taking the action that Keith Williams undertook,” she said.
Shortly after Moore was arrested and released, Speaker Burns lifted the ban and allowed him to attend joint sessions, potentially bolstering his attorney’s argument.
Despite a number of setbacks to their case, Moore’s attorney believes that their argument will prevail in court.
“Colton Moore has told zero lies. No one on our side has told any lies,” Bernard said. (RELATED: Baby Chance Born After Mother Declared Brain Dead, Defying the Odds)
“Unfortunately the other side is lying to protect political violence against a sitting state senator. It’s a disturbing situation but we have a lot of confidence that Judge Williams is going to come to the right conclusion after she has the opportunity to review the entire record.”
