Before the polls opened on Election Day, more than 4 million Georgia voters had already cast their ballot. This number amounts to 55.3% of the total voter turnout and amounts to a 65% increase over 2020.
Experts predict an additional 1.1 million voters will turn out in Georgia today and thus far, over half a million ballots have been cast in person today.
Voter turnout was described by consultant Bobby Saparow as “on par” with expectations, but, he added, “I’m not going to base anything on midafternoon turnout reports. Let’s see how the after-work rush looks, and then we will have a better idea.”
“This was the most successful Early Voting period in Georgia history because voters trust the process,” said Secretary Raffensperger. “Four years of progress brought us here. We’re battle-tested and ready, regardless of what the critics say. And we’re going to hold those who interfere in our elections accountable.”
According to Raffensperger, the surge in early voting has helped decrease average line time in Georgia to a mere two minutes.
Data shows higher early voting participation by women and age groups 50-70 and 18-24.
Polls will remain open until 7:00 p.m. A voter must be in line to vote by 7:00 p.m. but will be allowed to vote as long as they are in line by that time.Early voting is controversial for several reasons including claims by critics that mail-in ballots are more susceptible to fraud. Supporters say that early voting encourages participating by making the process more convenient and less susceptible to long lines.
