State Senator Brandon Beach has been appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as Treasurer of the United States, a high-profile federal position that places him in charge of the U.S. Mint, Fort Knox, and several other key financial responsibilities.
Beach, a Republican from Alpharetta, confirmed the appointment on Friday, shortly after it was announced during a Senate committee hearing. In this new role, he will serve as a senior advisor to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and will oversee institutions responsible for minting currency and safeguarding the nation’s bullion reserves. The position does not require confirmation from the U.S. Senate.
During his tenure in the Georgia State Senate, which began in 2013, Beach gained a reputation for supporting conservative legislation. At the same time, he championed economic development initiatives and pushed for expanded mass transit and legalized casino gambling, distinguishing himself from some within his party.
Beach previously served as president of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and held a leadership role with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He also helped found the North Fulton Community Improvement District and has been recognized for his expertise in economic and monetary policy.
His selection as U.S. treasurer leaves a vacancy in Georgia’s 21st Senate District, a Republican-leaning seat based in Alpharetta. Senate leadership has not yet announced a timeline for filling the seat.
The appointment follows a pattern of Georgians rising to federal leadership roles under Trump. Former U.S. Representative Doug Collins was chosen to head the Department of Veterans Affairs, former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler now leads the Small Business Administration and former U.S. Senator David Perdue is slated to be ambassador to China.
