The Details
After much back-and-forth between the Harris and Trump campaigns, a final set of rules has been agreed upon. The candidates will skip opening statements. For each questions, they will have two minutes to respond, two minutes for rebuttals, and one additional minute will be allowed for follow-up or clarification. To prevent interruptions, microphones will be muted while the other candidate is speaking. Harris and Trump will both be allowed a closing statement, with Trump going second following the virtual coin toss. The candidates are required to stand behind their podiums for the entire debate, with Harris on the right-hand stage, her choice also following the virtual coin toss. Neither candidate was given any questions ahead of time. They are not allowed to bring any prewritten notes or props on stage with them and they must refrain from asking each other questions.
With less than two months go until America picks its next President, tonight’s debate – the only one currently scheduled between Vice President Harris and former President Trump – is a not to be missed event.
