Georgia is scheduled to execute Stacey Ian Humphreys Wednesday, nearly 23 years after he murdered two real estate agents during a robbery at a Powder Springs model home.
The Georgia Department of Corrections set Humphreys’ lethal injection for 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. Humphreys, 53, was convicted of malice murder in the Nov. 3, 2003, deaths of Cyndi Williams, 33, and Lori Brown, 21.
Trial evidence showed Humphreys entered the subdivision sales office while on parole for felony theft. He forced both women to undress and disclose their bank PINs before shooting them. He later withdrew more than $3,000 from their accounts and fled Georgia.
Authorities arrested Humphreys in Wisconsin after a high-speed chase. Investigators found the murder weapon in his rental vehicle, Williams’ blood on the gun and Brown’s blood in his truck, according to court records summarized by the Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
Fox News reported Brown was preparing to marry her high school sweetheart in 2004. Her wedding-planning notebook remained on her desk the day she was killed. Her mother, Linda Brown, remembered her as outgoing, welcoming and naturally suited for real estate.
A jury sentenced Humphreys to death in 2007. His planned December 2025 execution was halted amid concerns about potential conflicts involving two State Board of Pardons and Paroles members. A judge later ordered one member to recuse herself but declined to require a replacement.
The board will hear arguments for and against clemency Sept. 15. A Cobb County judge rejected a recent defense effort alleging jury misconduct.
Barring clemency or a judicial stay, Humphreys would become Georgia’s first execution since March 2024 and the 55th inmate put to death by lethal injection in the state.
