Republican Clay Fuller is Congress-bound after defeating Democrat Shawn Harris in Tuesday’s special election runoff in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District — the seat previously held by Marjorie Taylor Greene. Fuller will be sworn in as early as next week when the House returns from recess, bolstering the GOP’s razor-thin majority.

Fuller wasted no time crediting the win to President Trump. “You can see with the results on March 10, and you can see the results of what we’re seeing here today, that President Trump is the most critical factor in our election,” Fuller told supporters at the historic Ringgold Depot. “He made sure that he was the ultimate trump card.”

The victory was expected in one of Georgia’s most conservative districts. Fuller will inherit Greene’s former staff, gain committee assignments, and immediately launch his full two-year term campaign for November.

But the margin told a more complicated story. With 99% of votes counted, Fuller led Harris 56% to 44% — a 12-point spread. When Greene ran against Harris in 2024, she won by 28 points. The dramatic swing drew immediate attention from both parties.

Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman Charlie Bailey called it a “jaw-dropping overperformance” for Harris, saying the Democrat “ran on a clear message that’s resonating with voters across the state and across party lines.”

Republicans, meanwhile, acknowledged the district’s lower runoff turnout as a factor. Fuller had never run districtwide and lacked the incumbency advantage Greene carried. Still, the result has put the GOP on notice heading into a midterm environment shadowed by Iran war tensions and economic anxieties over gas prices.

Fuller’s team showed no complacency — the night before the election, supporters gathered in Rome for a phone-a-thon to drive Republican turnout. (RELATED: Georgia’s High Court Seats Spark Rare All-Out Campaign War)

With his win certified, Fuller now joins the U.S. House as one of the newest members of Congress, ready to support the Trump agenda from day one. (RELATED: Georgia Ag Launches Private Sector Campaign To Locate Missing Children And Combat Trafficking)
