Georgia residents looking to participate in the November 5th election must complete their voter registration by the end of the day today, October 7th. This deadline is mandated by state law, which requires registration to be finalized 30 days prior to an election.

Early voting will commence on October 15th, providing an additional opportunity for registered voters to make their voices heard ahead of Election Day.

To register, individuals can visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s website. Those who prefer in-person registration can go to their local elections office. If you opt to mail in your registration form, it must be postmarked by today to be considered valid.

To complete the registration process, applicants need to present a Georgia driver’s license or an identification card issued by the Department of Driver Services.

The Secretary of State’s Office outlines the following criteria for voter registration:

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be a legal resident of the county
  • Must be at least 17.5 years old at the time of registration and 18 years old to vote
  • Must not be currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction involving moral turpitude
  • Must not have been declared mentally incompetent by a judge

Notably, those who will turn 18 between now and Election Day are eligible to register by today’s deadline and participate in the election. Additionally, individuals who have relocated to a different county within Georgia must re-register to vote.
