Republican state Rep. Houston Gaines won Georgia’s 10th Congressional District seat, defeating Democratic challenger Pamela “Pam” DeLancy. The Associated Press called the race on Tuesday evening.
Gaines campaigned on strengthening immigration enforcement, reducing federal spending, supporting law enforcement and promoting American manufacturing. In the Georgia House, where he has served since 2019, he worked on legislation addressing human trafficking and protecting domestic violence victims. DeLancy, a registered nurse and military veteran, emphasized lowering health care costs, raising the minimum wage and protecting Social Security.
The Cook Political Report rated the district Solid Republican heading into the election. The seat, which includes Athens and surrounding northeast and east-central Georgia communities, opened when Republican Rep. Mike Collins opted to run for the U.S. Senate. Gaines, who entered the race with President Donald Trump’s endorsement, will begin his first two-year term in Congress, keeping the seat in Republican hands.
