Republican Rep. Rick Allen won a seventh term representing Georgia’s 12th Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Ceretta Smith. The Associated Press called the race on Tuesday evening.
Allen campaigned on lowering taxes, reducing regulatory burdens on businesses and strengthening immigration enforcement. During his latest term, he supported the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which extended the 2017 individual tax cuts and created additional tax deductions for eligible workers and seniors. Smith, a former Army medic, Grovetown councilmember and union leader, emphasized lowering household costs, expanding affordable health care and strengthening veterans’ services.
The Cook Political Report rated the district Solid Republican heading into the election. The east Georgia seat includes Augusta, Statesboro and surrounding rural communities. First elected in 2014, Allen entered Congress after building an Augusta-based construction business. His victory secures another two-year term in Washington and keeps the seat in Republican hands.
